PAINTS AND VARNISHES - NATURAL WEATHERING OF COATINGS - PART F6: EXPOSURE AND ASSESSMENT (FIRST REVISION) (ISO 2810:2004, IDT)
MS 133: PART F6:2008
Status : 1st Revision
Format : PDF

This International Standard specifies the conditions which need to be taken into consideration in the selection

of coatings or coating systems (direct weathering or weathering behind window glass).
Natural weathering is used to determine the resistance of coatings or coating systems (denoted in the following
text simply by coatings) to the sun's radiation and the atmosphere.
Special atmospheric influences, e.g. industrial pollution, are not taken into account in this International
Standard.

PAINTS AND VARNISHES - COATING POWDERS - PART J12: DETERMINATION OF COMPATIBILITY (ISO 8130-12:1998 (2003), IDT)
MS 133: PART J12:2008
Status : Withdrawn
Format : PDF

This Malaysian Standard is one of a series of standards dealing with the sampling and testing of paints and varnishes and related products.

It specifies a method for determination of the ....Read more tendency for the mixing of two different coating powders to result in the deterioration of the surface quality of the final coating. The results depend on the following characteristics of the coating powders:
a) their chemical reactivity;
b) their chemical composition;
c) their melt properties.

The onset of the deterioration in appearance, its nature and its extent will depend greatly on the ratio in which the powders are mixed. The test is useful in predicting the possibility of incompatibility arising from mixing different powders both during the manufacturing process and during the application of the coating powder.The nature of the deterioration in surface appearance may manifest itself in various ways, including:
- change in gloss level;
- the presence of pinholes, including micro-pinholes;
- th

PAINTS AND VARNISHES - EVALUATION OF DEGRADATION OF COATINGS - DESIGNATION OF QUANTITY AND SIZE OF DEFECTS, AND OF INTENSITY OF UNIFORM CHANGES IN APPEARANCE - PART H7: ASSESSMENT OF DEGREE OF CHALKING BY VELVET METHOD (ISO 4628-7:2003, IDT)
MS 133: PART H7:2008
Status : Original
Format : PDF

This part of ISO 4628 describes a method suitable, in particular, for rating the degree of chalking on white or
coloured exterior coatings and coating systems on rough surfaces (i.e. those havin ....Read more g a roughness greater than
segment 4 of reference comparator G as described in ISO 8503-1).
The test method specified may also be used for the assessment of the degree of chalking of coatings and
coating systems on smooth surfaces, but the method specified in ISO 4628-6 is preferable for this purpose.
The test method is applicable to coatings and coating systems on mineral substrates, e.g. fibre cement, brick,
concrete and renderings, independent of the structure of the surface. The method can be used quite
effectively by experienced operators and is recommended for laboratory use as well as for on-site evaluation.
NOTE 1 When a reference to this test method is included in specifications, the test conditions (i.e. weathering method
and substrate) should be agreed between the interested parties.
NOTE 2 The method described in this part of ISO 4628 is a relative ranking method and is therefore not suitable for
use in agreements between parties. See, however, the Note to Table 1.
ISO 4628-1 defines the system used for designating the quantity and size of defects and the intensity of
changes in appearance of coatings and outlines the general principles of the system. This system is intended
to be used, in particular, for defects caused by ageing and weathering, and for uniform changes such as
colour changes, for example yellowing

powders that are to be applied by electrostatic
spraying on to a substrate.

PAINTS AND VARNISHES - COATING POWDERS - PART J11: INCLINED-PLANE FLOW TEST(ISO 8130-11:1997 (2007), IDT)
MS 133: PART J11:2008
Status : Withdrawn
Format : PDF

This Part of ISO 8130 is one of a series of standards dealing with the sampling and testing
of paints, varnishes and related products.
It specifies a method for determining the flow charac ....Read more teristics of a fused thermosetting coating
powder down a plane inclined at a set angle to the horizontal.
The result of the test described in this Part of ISO 8130 gives an indication of the degree of
melt flow that may occur during the curing of the coating powder. This characteristic
contributes to the coherence of the coating, to its surface appearance and to the degree of
coverage over sharp edges.
The test acts as a useful method for checking for batch to batch variation in the behaviour of
a given coating powder. Correlation between the results from coating powders of differing
composition is not to be expected.
This method is unlikely to yield meaningful results with coating powders which have gel
times of less than one minute at the test temperature when characterised according to
ISO 8130: Part 6.
