Recommendations for small renewable energy and hybrid systems for rural electrification - Part 1: General introduction to rural electrification
MS 62257-1:2009 (CONFIRMED:2015)
Status : 1st Confirmation
Format : PDF

Rural electrification is one of the predominant policy actions designed to increase the well being of rural populations together with improved healthcare, education, personal advancement and economica ....Read more l development. Rural electrification can be completed through connection to a national or regional electrification grid. This standard applies to cases where the grid is too far away (too costly) or the individual demand centres are too small to make grid access economic, where autonomous power systems may be used to supply these services.

This series of standards intends to provide to different players involved in rural electrification projects (such as project developers, project implementers, installers, etc.) documents for the setting up of renewable energy and hybrid systems with AC voltage below 500 V, DC voltage below 50 V and power below 50 kVA.

These standards are recommendations:
a) to choose the right system for the right place;
b) to design the system; and
c) to operate

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SMALL RENEWABLE ENERGY AND HYBRID SYSTEMS FOR RURAL ELECTRIFICATION - PART 7-1: GENERATORS - PHOTOVOLTAIC ARRAYS
MS 62257-7-1:2010
Status : Original
Format : PDF

This Malaysian Standard specifies the general requirements for erection and operation of PV arrays in decentralized rural electrification systems.

This Malaysian Standard gives requirem ....Read more ents for d.c. voltages below and above 120 V. However for rural electrification projects it is strongly recommended to choose a voltage in the range of extra low voltage, taking into account the assumed skills of the operators,
installers and users. Nevertheless, designers have to be aware that decreasing the voltage means increasing the current and thus transferring voltage hazards to current risks (risk of fire, etc.).

The following PV array configurations are considered:
a) single string of modules;
b) multi-string PV array; and
c) PV array divided into several sub-arrays.

Direct current systems, and photovoltaic systems in particular, pose various hazards in addition to those derived from conventional a.c. power systems, for example the ability to produce and sustain electrical arcs with cu

Recommendations for small renewable energy and hybrid systems for rural electrification - Part 2: From requirements to a range of electrification systems
MS 62257-2:2009 (CONFIRMED:2015)
Status : 1st Confirmation
Format : PDF

This Malaysian Standard gives some proposal a methodological approach for the setting up and carrying out of socio-economic studies as part of the framework decentralized rural electrifcation projects ....Read more . It is addressed to project teams and in particular to expert in charge of socio-economic studies in international projects.

The amount of detail gathered and the requisite number of experts needed would depend on the scale of the proposed project. For large projects involving many household, a detailed study would be required, for a project which involves a single or few household, the study could be truncated.

The information coming from such preliminary studies could be used for several purposes, such as more complete economic and financial studies of the electrification project.

This part of MS 62257 also provides some structures as technical solutions that could be recommended, depending on the qualitative and quantitative energy demands, consistent with the needs and financial

Recommendations for small renewable energy and hybrid systems for rural electrification - Part 7-3: Generator set - Selection of generator sets for rural electrification systems
MS 62257-7-3:2010 (CONFIRMED:2015)
Status : Original
Format : PDF

The Malaysian Standard specifies the general requirements for the selection, sizing, erection and operation of generator sets in decentralised rural electrification systems. It applies to all low volt ....Read more age combustion engine electricity generator sets with a rated power up to 100 kVA, and designed for supplying electrical power to isolated sites used in systems as described in MS 62257-2.

This Malaysian Standard is not an exhaustive resource for the design, installation, operation or maintenance of generator sets but is more focused on recommendations to provide strategies on selection and criteria which may affect the use of such generation systems in a rural electrification project.

Two cases will be considered to power a collective electrification system (microgrid) or an individual electrification system.
a) the micropower system is composed of one generator set; and
b) the micropower system is a hybrid one and the generator set is only part of it. This case is addressed in the

Recommendations for small renewable energy and hybrid systems for rural electrification - Part 6: Acceptance, operation, maintenance and replacement
MS 62257-6:2009 (CONFIRMED:2015)
Status : 1st Confirmation
Format : PDF

This Malaysian Standard describes the various rules to be applied for acceptance, operation, maintenance and replacement (AOMR) of decentralised rural electrification system (DRES) which are designed ....Read more to supply electric power for sites which are not connected to a large interconnected system, or a national grid, in order to meet basic needs.

The majority of these sites are:
a) isolated dwellings;
b) village houses;
c) community services (public lighting, pumping, health centers, places of worship or cultural activities, administrative buildings, etc.); and
d) economic activities (workshops, micro-industry, etc.).

It proposes a methodology to achieve the best technical and economic conditions for acceptance, operation, maintenance and replacement of equipment and complete system life cycle.

It does not substitute for technical manuals provided by manufacturers for each equipment. The complexity of the system and application will dictate the level of required AOMR documentation.

Recommendations for small renewable energy and hybrid systems for rural electrification - Part 4: System selection and design
MS 62257-4:2009 (CONFIRMED:2015)
Status : 1st Confirmation
Format : PDF

This Malaysian Standard provides a method for describing the results to be achieved by the electrification system independently of the technical solutions that could be implemented. MS 62257-2 assess ....Read more ed the needs of the users and the different power system architectures
which can be used for meeting these needs.

In relation to the needs of the different participants to the project, functional requirements that
should be achieved by the production and distribution subsystems are listed.

In Clause 5, energy management rules to be considered are described. These are key issues as they have a great influence on the sizing of the electrification system.

In Clause 6, the information that should be provided by the system sizing process to allow the participants to select the equipment or component able to fulfill the functional requirements are listed.

To allow and facilitate the management of the micro-power plant and the maintenance of the whole electrification system, some informa

The DRE systems fall into three categories:
a) process electrification systems (for example for pumping);
b) individual electrification systems (IES) for single users; and
c) collective electrification systems (CES) for multiple users.

Process or individual electrification systems exclusively consist of two subsystems:
a) an electric energy generation subsystem; and
