This part of IEC 60335 deals with the safety of electric dry irons and steam irons, including those with a separate water reservoir or boiler ....Read more having a capacity not exceeding 5 l, for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V including direct current (DC) supplied appliances and battery-operated appliances. Appliances not intended for normal household use, but which nevertheless can be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances intended to be used by laymen in shops, in light
industry and on farms, are within the scope of this standard.
As far as is practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by appliances, which are encountered by all persons in and around the home. However, in general, it does not take into account

– persons (including children) whose
• physical, sensory or mental capabilities; or
• lack of experience and knowledge prevents them from using the appliance safely without supervision or instruction;
– children playing with the appliance.

Attention is drawn to the fact that
– for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements can be necessary;
– in many countries, additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour, the national authorities responsible for the safety of pressure vessels. and similar authorities.

This standard does not apply to
– ironers (IEC 60335-2-44);
– ironing boards;
– appliances designed exclusively for industrial purposes;
– appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas). Close

f) electronic tobacco heating devices appliances for heated tobacco products; and
g) electronic heating devices appliances for smoking products.
This document does not apply to:
a) medical ventilators; and
b) humidifiers (IEC 60335-2-98).

These requirements do not cover the consumables, including e-liquids and other inhaled aerosol substances, wicks, and other particulate matter inhaled during use, nor do they cover substances in the emissions from the operation of the devices.

These requirements do not consider the physiological effects of any consumable used with the appliances. Close

As defined in IEC 62443‑1‑1 there are a total of seven FRs:
a) Identification and authentication control (IAC),
b) Use control (UC),
c) System integrity (SI),
d) Data confidentiality (DC),
e) Restricted data flow (RDF),
f) Timely response to events (TRE), and
g) Resource availability (RA).
These seven requirements are the foundation for control system capability SLs, SL-C (control system). Defining security capability at the control system level is the goal and objective of this standard as opposed to target SLs, SL-T, or achieved SLs, SL-A, which are out of scope.
See IEC 62443‑2‑1 for an equivalent set of non-technical, program-related, capability SRs

In the context of this document, asset owner also includes the operator of the IACS.

This document recognizes that the lifespan of an IACS can exceed twenty years, and that many legacy systems contain hardware and software that are no longer supported. Therefore, the SP
for most legacy systems addresses only a subset of the requirements defined in this document. For example, if IACS or component software is no longer supported, security patching requirements cannot be met. Similarly, backup software for many older systems is not available for all components of the IACS. This document does not specify that an IACS has these technical requirements. This document states that the asset owner needs to have policies and procedures around these types of requirements. In the case where an asset owner has legacy
systems that do not have the native technical capabilities, compensating security measures can be part of the policies and procedures specified in this document.

This document also recognizes that not all requirements specified in this document apply to all IACSs. For example, requirements associated with certain technology (such as wireless) or
functions (such as remote access) will not apply to IACSs that do not include these technologies or functions. Similarly, not all malware protection requirements apply to systems for which
malware protection software is not available for any of their devices. Therefore, this document states that the asset owner needs to identify the IACS security requirements that are applicable to its IACSs in their specific operating environments. Close
