PETROLEUM LIQUIDS - AUTOMATIC PIPELINE SAMPLING (ISO 3171:1988, IDT)
MS ISO 3171:2009
Status : Original
Format : PDF

This Malaysian Standard recommends procedures to be used for obtaining, by automatic means, representative samples of crude oil and liquid Petroleum products being conveyed by Pipeline.

....Read more NOTE - Although throughout this International Standard the term crude oil is used, this should be taken to include other Petroleum liquids where the technique and equipment are also applicable.

This Malaysian Standard does not apply to the sampling of liquefied petroleum gases and liquefied natural gases.

The principal purpose of this Malaysian Standard is to give guidelines for specifying, testing, operating, maintaining and monitoring crude oil samplers.

The sampling procedures for crude oil are intended to provide representative samples for the determination of

a) the oil composition and quality;

b) the total water content;

c) other contaminants that are not considered to be part of the crude oil transferred.

If the sampling procedures for a), b) and c) are in conflict, separate sampl

This Malaysian Standard specifies the manual methods to be used for obtaining samples of liquid or semiliquid hydrocarbons, tank residues and deposits from fixed tanks, railcars, road vehicles, ships ....Read more and barges, drums and cans, or from liquids being pumped in pipelines.

It applies to the sampling of petroleum products, crude oils and intermediate products, which are stored in tanks at or near atmospheric pressure, or transferred by pipelines, and are handled as liquids at temperatures from near ambient up to 200 °C.

The sampling procedures specified are not intended for the sampling of special petroleum products which are the subject of other International Standards, such as electrical insulating oils (IEC 60475), liquefied petroleum gases (ISO 4257), liquefied natural gases (ISO 8943) and gaseous natural gases (ISO 10715).

This Malaysian Standard refers to existing methods of sampling and the type of equipment presently in use. It is, however, not intended that it should exclude

Plastics - Determination of melting behaviour (melting temperature or melting range) of semi-crystalline polymers by capillary tube and polarizing-microscope methods (First revision) (ISO 3146:2000, COR. 1:2002, IDT)
MS ISO 3146:2004 (CONFIRMED:2012)
Status : 1st Confirmation
Format : PDF

thus International Standards specifies two methods for evaluating the melting behavior of semi-crystalline polymers. Melting temperatures determined by the different methods usually differ by several ....Read more kelvins for the reasons explained in the introduction.

Method A : Capillary tube

This method is based on the changes in shape of the polymer. it is applicable to all semi-crystalline polymers and their compounds.

NOTE 1 Method A may also be useful for the evaluation of the softening of non-crystalline solids.
Method B: Polarizing microscope
This method is based on changes in the optical properties of the polymer. It is applicable to polymers containing a
birefringent crystalline phase. It may not be suitable for plastics compounds containing pigments and/or other additives
which could interfere with the birefringence of the polymeric crystalline zone.
NOTE 2 Another method applicable to semi-crystalline polymers is described in ISO 11357-3:1999, Plastics — Differential scanning
calorimetry (DSC) — Part 3: Determination of temperature and enthalpy of melting and crystallization.
