METHODS OF TEST FOR PAINTS AND VARNISHES : PART D11 : COLORIMETRY - CALCULATION OF COLOUR DIFFERENCES (ISO 7724/3 : 1984, IDT)
MS 133: PART D11:1999 (CONFIRMED:2011)
Status : 1st Confirmation
Format : PDF

This part of MS 133 : Part D11 describes a method for the quantitative colorimetric evaluation of small colour differences between paint films.

NOTE. There are numerous formula for calcul ....Read more ating a colour difference from the colour co-ordinates of twospecimens. For various reasons the results given by such formula, including the one defined here, do not in all casesagree satisfactorily with visual perception nor are they likely to agree with each other. The Commission Internationalede l'Eclairage (CIE) recommended in 1976 two formula for general use. One of these, the CIE 1976 (L*a*b*) colourdifference formula (see CIE Publication No. 15 Supplement No. 2), has proved to be of practical value for thecolorimetric evaluation of paint films and is specified for this application in the parts of MS 133 : Part D9, Part D10and Part D11. METHODS OF TEST FOR PAINTS AND VARNISHES : PART D4 : COMPARISON OF CONTRAST RATIO (HIDING POWER) OF PAINTS OF THE SAME TYPE AND COLOUR (FIRST REVISION) [ISO 2814 : 1973, MOD]
MS 133: PART D4:1998 (CONFIRMED:2020)
Status : 1st Confirmation
Format : PDF

This Malaysian Standard specifies the standard method to be used in comparing the contrastratios given by paint films of white or light colours, of reflectance factor greater than 40 %,dried at normal ....Read more air temperatures and applied at approximately equal wet film thickness to black and white substrates.

The method, comparison of contrast ratio of films drawn down on a black and white substrateat equal wet film thickness, is the simplest of those investigated and has been found to give are producible comparison for paints of similar type. Because different operators using the same film coating device obtain films differing significantly in thickness, probably due tovariation in pressure on the applicator, the method is not satisfactory as an absolute method for the determination of hiding power. Alternative techniques for test film preparation and measurement are specified; MS 133 : Part D6 deals with application to black and white charts, while MS 133 : Part D7 deals with application to

METHODS OF TEST FOR PAINTS AND VARNISHES: PART B8: DETERMINATION OF SOLUBLE CADMIUM CONTENT - FLAME ATOMIC ABSORPTION SPECTROMETRIC METHOD AND POLAROGRAPHIC METHOD (ISO 3856/4: 1984, IDT)
MS 133: PART B8:1999 (CONFIRMED:2011)
Status : Withdrawn
Format : PDF

This part of Malaysian Standard describes two methods for the determination of the cadmium content of the test solutions prepared according to MS 1431 or other suitable Malaysian Standards.

....Read more /> The methods are applicable to paint shaving “soluble” cadmium contents in the range of about 0.05 to 5% (m/m).

The flame atomic absorption spectrometric method (AAS) (Clause 3) should be used as the referee method in cases of dispute. Other methods can be used by agreement between the interested parties. A polarographic method is given in Clause 4.

METHODS OF TEST FOR PAINTS AND VARNISHES PART A13: DETERMINATION OF FLOW TIME BY USE OF ISO 2431 FLOW CUPS
MS 133: PART A13:1994 (CONFIRMED:2011)
Status : Withdrawn
Format : PDF

This Malaysian Standard specifies a method for the determination of the flow time of paints, varnishes and related products that may be used to control consistency. It is recognized that the flow time ....Read more s are reproducible only for products of Newtonian or near- Newtonian flow properties. This effectively limits their practical use. Nevertheless, for checking purposes, these flow cups do serve a useful purpose. Furthermore, the measurement of flow time is often used to confirm the application consistency. Close

METHODS OF TEST FOR PAINTS AND VARNISHES: PART B4: DETERMINATION OF TOTALLEAD BY FLAME ATOMIC ABSORPTION SPECTROMETRIC METHOD (FIRST REVISION)
MS 133: PART B4:1997 (CONFIRMED:2011)
Status : Withdrawn
Format : PDF

This Malaysian Standard describes a flame atomic absorption spectrometric method for the determination of total lead in paints and related products.

The method is applicable to products h ....Read more aving total lead contents in the range of about 0.01 to2% (m/m) (Note 1).

Two methods are given for the treatment of the test portion; the dry ashing method (Clause 4) should be used as the referee method in cases of dispute.

For the determination of lead in the test solution, the dithizone spectrophotometric method specified in MS 133 : Part B5 may be used as an alternative method.

NOTE 1. This method may also be applicable to products with a total lead content of more than 2 % (m/m), but itshould only be used when the precision does not exceed the appropriate values given in Clause 7.2.
