This Malaysian Standard prescribes the requirements for the construction and testing of the following:

a) Packagings for dangerous goods including that of receptacles for gases and for ....Read more Division 6.2 substances (infectious substances);

b) Intermediate bulk containers:

i) The requirements of this standard apply to IBCs intended for the transport of certain dangerous goods. The provisions set out general requirements for multimodal transport and do not establish special requirements that may be required for a particular mode;

ii) Exceptionally, IBCs and their service equipment not conforming strictly to the requirements herein, but having acceptable alternatives, may be considered by the competent authority for approval. In addition, in order to take into account progress in science and technology, the use of alternative arrangements which offer at least equivalent safety in use in respect of compatibility with the properties of the substances carried and equivalent or superior resistance to impact, loading and fire, may be considered by the competent authority;

iii) The construction, equipment, testing, marking and operation of IBCs shall be subject to acceptance by the competent authority of the country in which the IBCs are approved; and

iv) Manufacturers and subsequent distributors of IBCs shall provide information regarding procedures to be followed and a description of the types and dimensions of closures (including required gaskets) and any other components needed to ensure that IBCs as presented for transport are capable of passing the applicable performance tests of this standard.

c) Large packagings:

i) The requirements of this standard do not apply to:
- Class 2 substances, except articles including aerosols;
- Class 6.2 substances, except clinical waste of UN 3291; and
- Class 7 packages containing radioactive material.

ii) Large packagings shall be manufactured and tested under a quality assurance programme which satisfies the competent authority in order to ensure that each manufactured packaging meets the requirements of this standard; and

iii) The specific requirements for large packagings in Clause 5 are based on large packagings currently used. In order to take into account progress in science and technology, there is no objection to the use of large packagings having specifications different from those in Clause5 provided they are equally effective, acceptable to the competent authority and able successfully to withstand the tests described in Clause 6. Methods of testing other than those described in this standard are acceptable provided they are equivalent.

d) Portable tanks and multiple-elements gas containers (MEGCs)

— site and soil characterization;

— identification of hazards;

— design and installation of shallow foundations supported by the seabed;

— design and installation of pile foundations;

— soil-structure interaction for auxiliary structures, e.g. subsea production systems, risers and flowlines (guidance given in A.10);

— design of anchors for the stationkeeping systems of floating structures (guidance given in A.11).

Particular requirements for marine soil investigations are detailed in ISO 19901-8.

Aspects of soil mechanics and foundation engineering that apply equally to offshore and onshore structures are not addressed. The user of this part of ISO 19901 is expected to be familiar with such aspects.

ISO 19901-4 outlines methods developed primarily for the design of shallow foundations with an embedded length (L) to diameter (D) ratio L/D < 1 (Clause 7) and relatively long and flexible pile foundations with L/D > 10 (Clause 8). This part of ISO 19901 does not apply to intermediate foundations with 1 < L/D < 10. Such intermediate foundations, often known as ‘caisson foundations’, comprise either shallow foundations with skirts penetrating deeper into the seabed than the width of the foundation, or shorter, more rigid and larger diameter piles than those traditionally used for founding offshore structures. The design of such foundations can require specific analysis methods; it is important that any extrapolation from the design methods described in this part of ISO 19901 to intermediate foundations be treated with care and assessed by a geotechnical specialist. (2) Imposed loads defined in EN 1991-2 are intended to be used for the design of new bridges, including piers, abutments, upstand walls, wing walls and flank walls etc., and their foundations.

(3) The load models and values given in EN 1991-2 should be used for the design of retaining walls adjacent to roads and railway lines.

NOTE For some models only, applicability conditions are defined in EN 1991-2. For the design of buried structures, retaining walls and tunnels, provisions other than those in EN 1990 to EN 1999 may be necessary. Possible complementary conditions may be defined in the National Annex or for the individual project.

(4) EN 1991-2 is intended to be used in conjunction with EN 1990 (especially A2) and EN 1991 to EN 1999.

(5) Section 1 gives definitions and symbols.

(6) Section 2 defines loading principles for road bridges, footbridges (or cycle-track bridges) and railway bridges.

(7) Section 3 is concerned with design situations and gives guidance on simultaneity of traffic load models and on combinations with non-traffic actions.

– imposed loads (models and representative values) due to traffic actions on road bridges and their conditions of mutual combination and of combination with pedestrian and cycle traffic (see section 5) ;
