PAINTS AND VARNISHES - DETERMINATION OF DENSITY - PART A17: PRESSURE CUP METHOD (ISO 2811-4:1997, MOD)
MS 133-A17:2010
Status : Withdrawn
Format : PDF

This part of ISO 2811 is one of a series of standards dealing with the sampling and testing of paints, varnishes and
related products.
It specifies a method for determining the density of ....Read more paints, varnishes and related products using a pressure cup.
The method is suitable for products which are aerated. Emulsion paints, for example, often trap small air bubbles,
and these may still be present when the density is measured.
It is not however suitable for textured paints which contain coarse particles

PAINTS AND VARNISHES - DETERMINATION OF PIGMENT CONTENT - PART A23: FILTRATION METHOD (ISO 14680-3:2000, IDT)
MS 133-A23:2010
Status : Original
Format : PDF

This Malaysian Standard is one of a series of standards dealing with the sampling and testing of paints, varnishes and related products.

It specifies a method for determining the pigment ....Read more content of paints in which potassium hydroxide solution is added to coagulate the pigment and the resulting solids filtered off. The method is particularly applicable to coating materials containing carbon black, very finely divided silicon dioxide, very finely divided titanium dioxide, organic pigments or polymer dispersions. It is not applicable to many water-dilutable paints because the whole binder will coagulate when the potassium hydroxide solution is added.

The pigment content of coating materials can also be determined by a centrifuge method (see ISO 14680-1) or by an ashing method (see ISO 14680-2).

PAINTS AND VARNISHES - DETERMINATION OF PIGMENT CONTENT - PART A22: ASHING METHOD (ISO 14680-2:2000, IDT)
MS 133-A22:2010
Status : Original
Format : PDF

This part of ISO 14680 is one of a series of standards dealing with the sampling and testing of paints, varnishes
and related products.
It specifies a method for determining the pigment co ....Read more ntent of paints in which the product under test is ashed. The
method is not applicable to coating materials containing aluminium, organic pigments and/or dyestuffs, or inorganic
pigments treated with organic compounds. Such constituents, which could make up about 10 % of the pigment, will
be lost during ashing.
As the state of many pigments and extenders changes under the specified test conditions, it will depend on the
composition and the chosen ashing temperature whether the actual pigment content of the product under test can
be deduced from the apparent pigment content found by this method.
The method is generally not suitable for UV paints and varnishes or those containing reactive diluents requiring
special heating conditions.
The pigment content of coating materials can also be determined by a centrifuge method (see ISO 14680-1) or by a
filtration method (see ISO 14680-3)

PAINTS AND VARNISHES - DETERMINATION OF PIGMENT CONTENT - PART A21: CENTRIFUGE METHOD (ISO 14680-1:2000, IDT)
MS 133-A21:2010
Status : Original
Format : PDF

This part of ISO 14680 is one of a series of standards dealing with the sampling and testing of paints, varnishes
and related products.
It specifies a method for determining the pigment co ....Read more ntent of paints in which the solids are sedimented by
centrifugation.
It is primarily intended for checking the composition during the production of coating materials and as an
acceptance check for the coating material user. Difficulties may be encountered when the method is applied to
coating materials containing dyestuffs, carbon black, very finely divided silicon dioxide or very finely divided
titanium dioxide. It may not be suitable for emulsion paints.
The pigment content of coating materials can also be determined by an ashing method (see ISO 14680-2) or by a
filtration method (see ISO 14680-3).

PAINTS AND VARNISHES - DETERMINATION OF VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUND (VOC) CONTENT - PART A20: GASCHROMATOGRAPHIC METHOD (ISO 11890-2:2006, MOD)
MS 133-A20:2010
Status : Withdrawn
Format : PDF

This part of ISO 11890 is one of a series of standards dealing with the sampling and testing of paints,
varnishes and related products.
It specifies a method for the determination of the v ....Read more olatile organic compound (VOC) content of paints,
varnishes and their raw materials. This part is preferred if the expected VOC content is greater than 0,1 % by
mass and less than about 15 % by mass. When the VOC content is greater than about 15 % by mass, the
less complicated method given in ISO 11890-1 may be used.
This method assumes that the volatile matter is either water or organic. However, other volatile inorganic
compounds can be present and might need to be quantified by another suitable method and allowed for in the
calculations.
