HOUSEHOLD INSECTICIDE PRODUCTS -EVALUATION METHOD FOR BIOLOGICAL EFFICACY - PART 1: GLASS CHAMBER METHOD
MS 1911: PART 1:2006
Status : Original
Format : PDF

This Malaysian Standard specifies a method for the evaluation of the biological efficacy of household insecticide products using the glass chamber method.

This test method provides a sa ....Read more tisfactory means to determine the relative effectiveness of common household insecticide products, namely mosquito electric vapourising liquid, mosquito vapourising mat and mosquito coils against the Malaysian Standard Reference Product (MS Reference Product).

The method is suitable for testing the above insecticide products against mosquitoes.

NOTES:

1. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health measures, Good Laboratory Practice and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

2. As a biological test, it is subject to the variation that accompanies the reactions of living organisms. It should be employed under close supervision of personnel familiar with biological testing of insecticides.

3. In order to measure the effectiveness with reasonable tolerance, the test is performed in conjunction with a MS Reference Product that is described in the respective standard documents.

4. Owing to the faster knockdown nature of the commercially available aerosol as compared to other household insecticide products, the performance of aerosol should not be evaluated using a glass chamber.

This standard covers only the types of sprinkler with the following conditions:
a) the sprinkler ‘K’ factors shall be as prescribed in this standard; and
b) the sprinkler head and its ‘K’ factor shall be verified/ tested/ certified and/or listed by an organisation recognised by the fire authority. The requirements and recommendations of this standard are also applicable to any addition, extension, repair or other modification to a sprinkler system. They are not applicable to water spray or deluge systems. It covers the classification of hazards, provision of water supplies, components to be used, installation and testing of the system, maint enance, and the extension of existing systems, and identifies construction details of buildings which are the minimum necessary for satisfactory performance of sprinkler systems complying with this standard.

This standard does not cover water supplies to systems other than sprinklers. Its requirements may be used as guidance for other fixed firefighting extinguishing systems, however, provided that any specific requirements for others firefighting extinguishing supplies are taken into account.

This standard also covers sprinkler kits where a kit comprises all the components necessary to complete the installed sprinkler system. The requirements are not valid for automatic sprinkler systems on ships, in aircraft, on vehicles and mobile fire appliances or for below ground systems in the mining industry.
