This Sub-Section describes a method designed to assess the ability of a product to impart a discernible odour and/or flavour to water intended for human consumption. The method is applicable to all types of non-metallic products used in contact with drinking water.
It is not applicable for testing flexible hoses (with or without reinforcement) in their final form
(i.e. before assembly) or flexible hoses (with or without reinforcement) intended for use in equipment used for food and drink preparation.
NOTE. Procedures for testing odours and flavours imparted to water by flexible hoses (with or without reinforcement) in their final form (i.e. before assembly) and flexible hoses (with or without reinforcement) intended for use in equipment used for food and drink preparation are given in Sub-sections 2 and 3 of MS 1583: Part 2: Section 2 respectively.
