NATURAL GAS - DETERMINATION OF SULPHUR COMPOUNDS - PART 1: GENERAL INTRODUCTION (FIRST REVISION)
This Malaysian Standard gives a brief description of standardised methods that can be used for the determination of sulphur compounds in natural gas.
The principle of each method is described generally, the range of concentrations for which the method is suitable is indicated, and the analytical range and precision of each method is given. It should enable the user to select judiciously the proper method for the application being considered. Sulphur analysis is performed in order to determine:
a) total sulphur;
b) sulphur contained in specific groups (e.g. thiol sulphur);
c) individual sulphur compounds; and d) specific groups of sulphur compounds.
The standardised methods available in the field of sulphur analysis are:
- gas chromatography: for determination of individual sulphur compounds (MS ISO 19739); and
- potentiometry: for determination of hydrogen sulphide, carbonyl sulphide and thiol compounds (MS 2392-2).
Other methods for the determination of sulphur compounds are
