METHOD FOR DETERMINATION OF WATER USING
KARL FISCHER REAGENT
1.1 This Malaysian Standard provides a method intended as a general guide for the
application of the Karl Fischer reagent method for determining free water and water of
hydration in most solid or liquid organic and inorganic compounds. By proper choice of sample
size, Karl Fischer reagent concentration, and apparatus, the method is suitable for the
measurement of water over a wide concentration range, that is, parts per million to pure water.
Both visual and electrometric methods are described for ascertaining the end point.
