PART 9: METHODS FOR DETERMINATION OF
TENPER CENT FINES VALUE (TFV)

This Part of MS 30 describes methods for the determination of the ten per cent fines value (TFV)
of aggregates which gives a relative measure of the resistance of an aggregate to crushing under
a gradually applied compressive load.
Two procedures are described, one in which the aggregate is tested in a dry condition and the
other in a soaked condition.
The methods are applicable to both weak and strong aggregates passing a 14.0 mm test sieve
and retained on a 10.0 mm test sieve. For other size fractions, a recommended method is
described in Appendix A.
