METHODS OF TEST FOR PAINTS AND VARNISHES : PART D11 : COLORIMETRY - CALCULATION OF COLOUR DIFFERENCES (ISO 7724/3 : 1984, IDT)
This part of MS 133 : Part D11 describes a method for the quantitative colorimetric evaluation of small colour differences between paint films.
NOTE. There are numerous formula for calculating a colour difference from the colour co-ordinates of twospecimens. For various reasons the results given by such formula, including the one defined here, do not in all casesagree satisfactorily with visual perception nor are they likely to agree with each other. The Commission Internationalede l'Eclairage (CIE) recommended in 1976 two formula for general use. One of these, the CIE 1976 (L*a*b*) colourdifference formula (see CIE Publication No. 15 Supplement No. 2), has proved to be of practical value for thecolorimetric evaluation of paint films and is specified for this application in the parts of MS 133 : Part D9, Part D10and Part D11.
