This Malaysian Standard describes:
- polling for MEPs entering the field of a Proximity Coupling Device (PCD);
- the MEP reset sequence;
- methods to detect and communicate with one MEP among several MEPs (anticollision);
- the byte format, the frames and timing used during communication between PCDs and MEPs; and
- other parameters required to initialise communications between MEP and PCD.
Protocol and commands used by higher layers and by applications and which are used after the initial phase are described in MS 1901: Part 4.
This standard shall be used in conjunction with other parts of MS 1901: Part 3:2006 series.
This standard does not specify the means of generating coupling fields, nor the means of compliance with regulations on electromagnetic radiation and human exposure to it, which can vary from country to country.
